I remember being 9 years old when I saw my very first musical on DVD- Hairspray. I was captivated by the music, the dancing, and of course, Zac Efron. Although I had been in dance classes for as long as Incould remember, this felt new and different. From that moment, I knew that somehow, someway, I would perform in that way.
My very first show I ever performed in was Seussical the Musical at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, in Jupiter, Florida. I played a Bird Girl and remember how exciting it felt to play someone other than myself.
As I grew older, I would find myself in dance ensembles in shows such as West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, and Mamma Mia. Every chance I had to tell a story, I jumped for.
In college, I was fortunate enough to play Callie Pax in Stop Kiss by Diana Son. In Stop Kiss, Callie's story intermixes with themes of love, intimacy, and what it means to be known. I will never forget having the opportunity to tell a story of someone who every theatre goer could relate to in somehow, some way.
Getting to tell stories and impact the lives of others through my own personage is exciting, invigorating, and greatly impactful not only to the audience, but for myself. I feel lucky that I have had the opportunity to perform in so many different facets throughout my young adulthood and I am encouraged to see where life continues to take me.
